FLOATING REPUTATION 1 (Why do people even do that? To “ Hurt Them” I guess.)

Read Time:2 Minute, 36 Second

We live in an age wherein nearly everyone has something to prove; most people are in competition with each other. They cannot live their lives peacefully and enjoy it because they always have to prove that they have what they do not have and may never have.

Why do people even do that? To “ Hurt Them” I guess

This “pepper dem” generation ends up peppering themselves in the end – they are constantly depressed. Back in those days without the internet and several social media platforms that we now enjoy, most people are happy about their lives; they make do with what they had and make the most of life. They are rarely depressed.

However, in this age of information, a lot of people cannot live as they ought to live because they have to protect the reputations that they do not have – floating reputations.

What does it mean to create a floating reputation?
It simply means making people believe that you have certain things that you do not have, or that you have reached a certain level that you are yet to attain and painting the pictures to them.

Why do people create and live on floating reputations?
The reason is a large part of human beings’ undeveloped nature – to show that they have arrived usually by skipping the processes needed to get to where they are going. Social media makes it very easy to do.

Most people do not have lives outside social media, and even on it, they do not have a profitable business – they are just out there to prove to people that they have arrived. The best way to help certain people realize that they are living on a floating reputation is to take away their social media handles from them.

They have no real relationships aside from those online followers and friends, most of which they never get to meet and many of whom do not care a hoot about them; they do not have friends to talk to when things bother them, they are also far away from their families – this is why the only people they talk to are people on social media. This gets them constantly depressed.

Social Media is a great platform for whoever knows how to make the most of it, but a lot of people use it for self-destruction. The social media actors are as depressed as their fans.

While the actors are in a constant struggle to live up to the reputations that they have made their followers believe that they have, sometimes by engaging in several undignifying ventures, their poor fans wonder why life is unfair to them without ever realizing that they are victims of floating reputations.

There is a difference between using social media to boost your business & reputation and using it to promote a floating reputation. The formal is good, the latter is detrimental. In part two of this article, I will address the difference even more.
